Friday event: What freelancers need to know at tax time
Veteran CPA Jason Stallcup will help Guild Freelancers learn how to keep more of what we earn at a lunch seminar — including plenty of time to ask questions — Friday, Dec. 11 at our Guild offices in San Francisco.
Over the past 17 years, Jason has seen the number of people filing as freelancers skyrocket.
“There are a lot of people being laid off and looking to set themselves up independently,” he said. “I hear, ‘Should I incorporate? Should I go LLC?’ Most people are perplexed by quarterly tax payments, what’s deductible and what’s not. I’ll give the lay of the land and go down the whole laundry list.”
Typically, about 15 minutes in, his tax talks turn into a free-wheeling Q & A session, he said, laughing.
Over the years, Jason has worked for a high-tech company, as part of a large CPA firm and an entrepreneur focusing on the self-employed and small-to-medium sized businesses.
The event is free for members. We request a donation of $10 for nonmembers to help cover the cost of food. Please email your RSVP to freelance@mediaworkers.org.
If you haven’t done so, you can join online here.
We’ll start with a short unit meeting at 11:30 a.m.; Jason will begin promptly at 12 Noon.
